"The Nature of Invisible Things" wins Queer Porto 11

The film “The Nature of Invisible Things”, by Rafaela Camelo, won the best film category at “Queer Porto 11 – International Queer Film Festival”, which ended this Saturday in the city of Porto.
The film, about an unlikely friendship formed when two young women meet in a hospital, is a Brazilian-Chilean production from this year, directed by Brazilian Rafaela Camelo.
The jury, composed of RTP producer and director Adriano Nazareth, artist Aura, and producer and filmmaker Catarina de Sousa, awarded a special mention to the film “Mea Culpa” by Patrick Tass (Belgium), which explores themes such as identity, family, and sexuality.
According to the organization, the audience award went to “Queer as Punk” by Yihwen Chen (Malaysia, Indonesia), a Malaysian filmmaker and journalist. The film documents the journey of an openly “queer” punk band in Malaysia, a country where LGBTQ+ rights are denied.
The Casa Comum Prize, which recognizes the best Portuguese short film, was awarded to the film "The Cemetery of Insects" by Alex Simões.
For this award, the jury, appointed by the Rectorate of the University of Porto, was composed of Anabela Santos, communication and culture advisor at the University of Porto, Jorge Peixoto Freitas, clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, and Telmo Fernandes, researcher in sociology and psychology.
The festival concluded tonight with the screening of the British film “Hot Milk” by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, in its national premiere.
The 11th Queer Porto presented a total of 40 films, divided into 27 film sessions, over five days. The sessions and conversations with the guests took place between the Batalha Cinema Centre, Casa Comum (Rectorate of the University of Porto) and Passos Manuel.
According to the organization, the dates for Queer Lisboa 30, a special edition of the festival, have already been confirmed on the festival's official page. It will take place from September 18th to 26th, 2026, at Cinema São Jorge and Cinemateca Portuguesa. Queer Porto will return in 2026, with dates to be announced.
